Our last newsletter mentioned the second annual "Through Their Eyes" photography exhibit, but there was a change of plans after that and the date and location of the event were changed. The good news is, you haven't missed it. It is now being held on March 28 at 7:30 p.m. at the Octane Coffee Bar and Lounge at 1009-B Marietta St. NW in Atlanta.

The Camera Doctor is a sponsor, providing goods and services to this annual community photography project featuring the work of high school students in Atlanta. Each year 15 Atlanta Public Schools students are provided digital and film cameras and encouraged to photograph their communities and lives. The effort concludes with an exhibit of prints at the Octane location. More information is available online at the Essential2Life website.

New Arrivals in the Store -- Modified Holgas and Polaroid 664 Film

We recently received a new shipment of modified Holga cameras from Holgamods, so if you've been wanting one of these improved versions, with more light control and closer focus, come in and see us. They're great for shooting spring dogwoods and other flowers.

We have also received a shipment of Polaroid 664 black and white 100-speed film, for the "pull-out and peel" style of Polaroid camera.

Vintage Camera of the Month

This month's camera is the Canon AE-1, one of the most phenomenally popular 35mm manual SLR cameras ever made. During its manufacturing lifetime from 1976 to 1984, the camera sold more than 5 million units worldwide. It had manual focus and manual or shutter priority auto-exposure, and was the first SLR to be produced in a robotic factory. It was also the first camera to be equipped with a microprocessor as a CPU.

The AE-1 was the camera that helped bring Canon out from under the shadow of Nikon as SLRs made the rapid technological advances that led to today's sophisticated digital SLRs. Although made for the amateur market, the AE-1 takes great photos and remains sought-after in the vintage camera after-market. A large lineup of lenses and accessories was also developed to support this line. We have a couple of these in our collection, available for sale. Come on in and take a look!
