Introduction to 35mm Photography

This two-session class will
introduce students to the wonderful world of 35mm film photography.
Students will learn about the mechanics of 35mm cameras,
characteristics of different types of film, and will receive
individual assistance in learning how to operate whatever camera
they own. (Loaner cameras will be provided on request).
Class topics will include:

History of 35mm cameras and
photography
·
Film types and
characteristics, black and white vs color
·
Types and mechanics of 35mm
cameras (rangefinders, SLRs, manual, automatic)
·
How to load, focus, meter,
shoot, and unload your camera
·
The ins and outs of lenses
·
Filters and special effects
·
Negatives, prints, scans –
analogue workflow alternatives
·
Basic composition issues
·
Flash and other lighting
·
How and where to buy vintage
35mm cameras
The first session of the class,
on Saturday July 26 (9:00 to 11:30 a.m.), will walk students through
the basics. During the rest of the week, students will shoot one or
more rolls of film on their own, have them processed and printed.
One roll will be developed for free by The Camera Doctor. Prints are
available at regular price.
The second (Saturday, August 2, 9:00 –
11:30 a.m.) session will address remaining topics and review student
work. Students are asked to bring in two or three prints they would
like discussed during the class. Class fee $100 (includes one roll
