Join the Chat During the Wonderful One-Day Mystery!

During every mystery quilt at Planet Patchwork we open a chat room during the day for participants to talk to one another while they work on the quilt. Also present for all or part of the chat is the mystery's creator, Merry May, or Inspector Merry Mayhem.

We've used a variety of chat programs over the years, and some worked better than others. We are now using a web-based system courtesy of Gabbly.com, which opens a chat window right here at Planet Patchwork. It's easy to use and should be robust enough to handle our large volume of chatters!

Here are the chat instructions:

1. Click on the chat link on the main mystery page (the one where the new installments are posted), or click here.

2. A box will open in the upper right corner of the page. It will contain a large area where the chat actually appears, and beneath that is a smaller area where you enter your chat text. When the screen comes up, it will automatically assign you a username, which will appear in the small box between the two text areas, and will look like this: gabber825. If you want to change your name to something more personal, simply enter it in the name box and click on the "Change" button. You will not need to use the "Login" button for our chat. It's open without a login.

3. When you're ready to take part, put your cursor in the box at the bottom and type your message. When you're finished, press <Enter> to post your text. That's all there is to it! The chat window will stay open until you close it by clicking on the X in the upper right. You can also resize the window by dragging the edges, and anchor it to the right or bottom margins of the page.

4. Gabbler Chat works with most internet browsers (including Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, and Flock. If you have trouble getting it to work, switch to one of these programs. We have not tested it on AOL.

5. For further information on Gabbler, you may go directly to their webpage and read their FAQ. However, the chat that appears on that page is NOT the mystery quilt chat (and it can sometimes get pretty raunchy!) The mystery quilt chat can only be reached through the link on the mystery quilt page.

6. We're going to be very busy posting new installments and managing the mystery on New Year's Day, and won't have time to provide support if you have problems with the chat. The chat is open now, and we strongly suggest that you click on the link and try it out beforehand to get familiar with it and be sure it works on your computer!

If you want to enter the contest for door prizes, be sure you sign up for our Planet Patchwork update list. We will be sending instructions for door prize entries out only through the list. You can sign up by clicking here!
